Ok guys so I've been trying to troubleshoot this issue for a few weeks now and have tried almost

everything and I'm very frustrated. My PC was working fine up until I installed the MSI GTX 1080 ti

Duke OC edition. Prior to this I was running a MSI 980 Ti. After installing the new card my PC

would freeze randomly during game menus and randomly when playing them sometimes a few

minutes in and sometimes after a few hours. It would be a complete freeze and I would just see a

still image of w/e game I was playing and the audio would just cut out and I had to do a hard reset

every time. The strange thing is that it would happen in game menus and also in games that aren't

very intense like Hearthstone. it's happened on Overwatch, Player Unknown Battlegrounds, Elder

Scrolls online, Heroes of the Storm and the Destiny 2 beta. I Deleted the old card drivers, I did a

fresh reinstall of Windows 10 and still the same thing. I then updated the BIOS and it still happened,

only now it would shut down and restart itself instead of just freezing. later on I disabled some audio

drivers that I didn't use because I heard somewhere that that can cause conflicts but it still keeps

happening only now the screen turns green and the audio becomes distorted and then the PC

restarts itself and comes back normal. The temps for CPU and GPU read normal, from all the

research I've done, it seems to point to either my PSU or GPU. I don't think my PSU is faulty but

maybe I need one with more wattage? and my GPU is pretty new and only acts up during games

and not during normal PC usage so I don't know if it's the card?

My specs are:

i7-5820k 3.30GHZ

16GB DDR4 3000 MHz Corsair Dominator Platinum

Samsung 850 512GB SSD

MSI X99A Raider ATX MOBO

Noctua NH‑D15 Processor cooler

Thermaltake Toughpower 750W 80 GOLD PSU

MSI GTX 1080 Ti Duke OC Edition

Thermaltake Suppressor F51 E-ATX Mid Tower

Soundblaster Z sound card.

I hope someone with more knowledge than I can help me out, much appreciated!

Yeah you're probably right, I was just wondering if maybe the card just wasn't compatible with something on my PC since it's a beefier card. And you think a 750W PSU is plenty?

I have the same problem but my old graphics card was a 570 gtx. Now with my new 1080 ti my pc randomly restarts while playing games (30 minutes - multiple hours)
I got a 550 psu (BeQuiet dark power 10). Is that enough or is it more likely to be a problem of the new graphics card? Thanks for your help!

so I returned my 1080 ti Duke and got a refund and bought the ASUS 1080 Ti Strix. MSI Told me they couldn't fix my card so I assumed it was the card that was faulty and giving me all these issues. I installed the Asus card today and yet again I'm having the exact same issue. So I don't think it's the card that's bad, I honestly think it's my PSU :(.
