I currently own an AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition and an R7 260X 2GB.

i want to upgrade to a Ryzen 5 1600 and a GTX 1060 6GB.
Since i have to change motherboard, ram cpu and graphics card i won't be able to afford everything at once.
What should i upgrade first, the platform itself ( i mean the processor and the board with the ram) or the Graphics Card?

Thanks in advance.

Under normal circumstances, I'd say go with the video card first, assuming that your existing system would accept the new card.

Given that video cards are currently a bit overpriced due to (mostly) Ethereum mining, I could suggest that, unless you find a really good deal on the 1060, to consider upgrading the board/CPU/RAM first.

Well , 6gb 1060's used to cost about 250-270€ before the mining crash, now theyre at 285€+ , the one i'm aiming for is 289€ so not that bad of a deal.

Definitely do NOT do the ram first! Your current setup requires DDR3 ram and you won't be able to use that on a new motherboard/CPU.

If you can't do the CPU/MB/ram/graphics at the same time, upgrade the CPU/MB/ram or the graphics card. You can use your old GPU in the new MB or a new GPU in your old MB.

I would be inclined to upgrade the GPU first, as you would be more likely to notice the improvement.

So the OP should buy DDR4 ram without a motherboard to put it in? Without knowing if the ram will work in the motherboard he does buy later?

Ram by itself is useless without a supporting motherboard, which is useless without a supported CPU.
Are you really saving money here?

yep. cause you can aways send it back if its defected. grab it either on sale or before the price is to high for the budget. 16 gigs of ddr4 is about $150us for the cheaper brands. it used to be around $110. its close to $200 for ddr4 just cause they are changing their fabs.

Not supported is not the same as defective.

If you don't know what motherboard you are getting then there is no guarantee that the ram you get will still work with whatever motherboard you DO decide to get. Again, incompatible is not defective!

Yeah I'd agree with this, the price of RAM is ridiculous right now and that's mainly due to the iPhone X using the same DIMMs as your typical DDR4 stick.

Given that video cards are currently a bit overpriced due to (mostly) Ethereum mining, I could suggest that, unless you find a really good deal on the 1060, to consider upgrading the board/CPU/RAM first.

A lot of that is subsiding right now. Mainly due to the market flow returning to normal after the surge. Plus all the major GPU manufacturers have announced mining specific GPUs so expect prices to dip further once those are released.
