Need Help Regarding Wifi Router config

To make it simple, I have a broadband internet connection in which it's just a single LAN cable coming into my house which I connect it to my laptop. Now to connect to the internet I have to run some kind of connection wizard named SKYNET , it asks for username & password and then I get connected to the internet. What is the other end of that "single LAN cable" connected to?

Is your problem that you do not have the username and password?

Talk with whomever manages your network and network router.

Is this skynet, the wireless internet service in Houston Texas or someone else?

We need to understand what the internet connection is, before we can really advise on how you can hookup a router to it.
