I replaced an EVGA 500 watt non modular PSU with an EVGA supernova 750 watt semi modular. It tested fine but when I hooked everything up the computer wouldnt turn on. Checked all the cables, they were fine. UNplugged all but the power and nothing. Went back through everything and nothing. UNplugged the power again and hooked up power cables from old PSU and it fired right up..

What could be the problem? Is it just dead or can a PSU not like a mobo?

Ryzen 7 1700x with an asus x370 prime pro mobo

Didn't find a solution on the net so I will probably return it and try a new one..worried about modular not working though..any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks

So old psu works new one doesn't. If so it's likely a bad psu. The evga "tester" is basically the paperclip test, that method can test if there is some life there but that's it.

1st thing that comes to mind is how a new PSU sometimes has a very tight fitting 24-pin connection. And as a result the 24-pin contacts aren't contacted fully. Good thing the old PSU works, because that prooves all is OK with the MOBO after any fiddling with connecting new PSU.

Best thing to do next is the "Paper-clip-test" on the new PSU. Or if ur like me and scared of electricity just spent $5 to $10 on a PSU tester:

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA6705VG0177&cm_re=PSU_tester-_-9SIA6705VG0177-_-Product

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIABG95HV0402&cm_re=PSU_tester-_-9SIABG95HV0402-_-Product

If the new PSU tests AOK with paperclip test or a tester, then the 24-pin (connection) may be the culprit. Also note if the 24-pin (connection) is snug on a tester or ever another PC.

It came with a tester. The fan spins when tested but when plugged in nothing

Missed a cable how? I went through everything 3 times and then I unplugged everything I didn't need and tried that, it wouldn't power on with just the 24 and 8 pin connected...it would with old PSU.
