Is Windows 8.1 with updates better than Windows 7?

I've just reinstalled WIndows 8.1 and updated it completely. WIth all of its updates, is this better than even Windows 7? It's got more funky resources such as the charms bar, and the mouse swiping thing and the apps.

That's more of a personal choice.

IMHO I hate Windows 8 and 8.1. They're just like Vista for me, completely useless compared to it's predecessor.

I'd just upgrade it to W10 as soon as possible or stick with W7

windows 8.1 is not better or worst than windows 7, it is more updated with security form Microsoft updates , and in some cases windows 8,.1 will run better than windows 7 on certain type of hardware that do not have drivers for windows 7 to full optimize the speed of usage of the hardware (don't use older win 7 on a ryzen for example when windows 10 will run better on it.)

I have multiple bench computers (dozen or so), and some perform well under windows 7, 8.1 or 10 depending on the hardware attached to the system. and some run better under Linux. :)

Yes, this seems to be my case, my FX6300 with its Gigabyte mini-ATX motherboard along with the rest seem to run better/faster under Windows 8.1 than under WIndows 7.
