I don't know where to put this so here will have to do. My friend who has a Xbox One and an Elgato HD60, and he's trying to use the Elgato Capture software to record his voice using an external mic. The problem is that his external mic isn't showing up as an audio input option on the Elgato software.

The external mic he's using is called a Soonhua sh-66 and I think its just s cheap piece of shit he bought cos one of his other friends had it. You'll have to google it and find it on amazon because thats the only place I can find it.

The next thing is that his Laptop only has one jack and I think its for Headphones, so he bought a splitter cable to plug his external mic into to connect it.

I'm not sure what he's already tried but all I know is that the mic isn't showing up as an input option, and I can't find anyone else with the same problem. Just list all solutions you think may work and if nothing does I'll find a good, better mic for him to use

laptop: if the jack is for headphones only, then whatever trickery you try simply results in multiple headphone sockets.

thats got to be one really old laptop !

xbox: the plugs for xbox and pc/laptop maybe different as per this post - http://www.tomsguide.com/answers/id-3008311/headphones-mic-work.html

you maybe want to check your plug bands.

finally = https://www.amazon.co.uk/Plugable-Headphone-Microphone-Aluminum-Compatibility-Black/dp/B00NMXY2MO fix this with a 3.5mm to usb converter? you do have usb on your laptop and/or xbox?
