Before you go any further. I know windows XP is no longer supported. All my machines that are being used by employees; are using Windows 7 or higher. The only reason i'm trying to to get this to work is because my employer needs to use this machine for something.

Now my issue. I booted up the machine and converted over the Windows XP machine to hyper-v. Got Norton anti-virus installed on it. So i'm protected their. And i have the machine connected to the internet. I went to update the machine so it had at least all the updates on it. It gives me an error. The error code is 0x80072EFF. I have been using www.google.com and bing for the past 3-4 hours before posting on this. I tried a couple things and got no where. I was wondering if anyone else ran into this issue before and to fix it without doing type of format and reinstall of anything. Because i don't have that option.

p.s. just a side note, if you haven't tried virtualization. You should try it out. It's very nice to have 5 or more box on one machine. Even if your running two at a time or just to power it on when needed.

Thanks ahead if you leave a response.

There are quite a few programs that can pull updates from MS and install them offline. The one I use is USUS Offline Update. You WILL have to go back to a version probably in 2015/2014 to find one with XP Support.

http://download.wsusoffline.net/

It will download all the updates. Then you can run the client part and install them. It will make a temp user and install the updates.
Ok. Do a thing, go to a torrent website and before commenting this isnt illegal, its completely legit. Search for cumulative updates FOR WINDOWS XP. Also do a search on the web, you will get a link to all the updates, just download and install.

Every time I had this problem before in XP, manually downloading and installing the latest Windows Update Agent fixed it.

I assume you are using the POSready2009 registry hack to get updates later than 2014. For an employer I would use only the official updates from official sources, but for just a gaming machine some helpful fellow from Greece has made an unofficial SP4 which really speeds up installation time.
