Hello all,

I was wondering about something. I'm building a new setup, but only one thing still gets me unsure.

My setup is a Ryzen7 1700x with a GTX1080ti.
I was planning on getting 2x - 8GB DDR4 ram 3000MHz, and the motherboard would be: MSI B350 Tomahawk.

I know that Ryzen 7 1700x only supports up till 2667MHz, but I was wondering if 3000MHz would work better?
The same goes for my motherboard: I am totally unfamiliar in this aspect. I noticed the Tomahawk supports up till 2400MHz and then it says up till 3200MHz (OC). Does this mean that I can still run 3000MHz but that it will lock itself on 2400MHz?

I hope I explained it a bit clear, thanks in advance!

Ryzen motherboards support faster speeds using XMP memory profiles, but you have to take notice of what MSI has said is compatible or is guaranteed by the memory company. Latest BIOS's should get 3000Mhz running at 2966Mhz and faster memory even higher. Also look for Samsung based chips as they are better quality.

Sorry I'm a total noob in this aspect: Does that mean it's possible? If I understand it right the motherboard with the right drivers installed will be able to get the speed on 2966MHz right?
