Hello,

I tried today installing 4GB Corsair memory CM3X4GSD1066 G in my Asus X555LA laptop but despite all my efforts it is only showing 4GB installed and not the extra 4GB from the new RAM module.

The only thing I can think of is that it needs to be 1600MHz instead of 1066MHz, is this possible?

I've updated the BIOS to the latest version I can find and unchecked any memory limits in msconfig and can't seem to find a solution.

Using CPU-z it recognises the model number of the card in the slot but the total memory still shows at 4GB.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Solution
Try to manually downclock your RAM to the slowest of the 2 modules to see if it picks it up. Of course, even if this does work, your RAM will be running considerably slower. It's always best to use 'matching' sticks of RAM. It will be hit and miss compatibility for any RAM that isn't sold as a kit. You are seeing the result of incompatible RAM.

Thanks alcerys,

I ended up taking it back and getting a 1600MHz module. Worked 1st time without any problems, never realised there were so many variables when buying RAM! I'll know next time.

Cheers,
