Hi,

I am hoping for help. I am looking to build a better PC.. one which will result in a significant step up in performance while not costing the earth.

My uses are for:
Gaming (1080p 60fps - I don't care much for higher visuals at the moment)
VR with the Oculus Rift
Recording Games
Video Editing
Adobe Creative Cloud - Premiere Pro, After Effects and Photoshop
Live Streaming on Youtube

This is what I have put together https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/closeupgamer/saved/888YrH

NOTE: I already have 16GB RAM, 250GB SSD for Windows 10, 1TB HDD and a 250GB HDD I use just for Premiere Pro Scratch Disks. The rest is an upgrade.

My current build is an i5-4460, Hyper Evo 212 EVO Cooler (I don't know if its transferable) GTX 960, ASrock Motherboard (can't remember model exactly -
about £45), Corsair 550w PSU

I don't know if it's worth keeping the PSU I have.. 2 1/2 yrs old. and I want it to handle VR I dont know how much power that consumes.

Lastly, the reason I chose a "k" version CPU is while I don't want to fiddle with OC.. it's not much more and its a better speed from what I can see.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

for streaming and recording something with more cores is recomended, wait for canonlake (6 cores/12threads) or go for: ryzen 1700,ryzen 1600, i7 6800k, i7 6900k, i9 7820x, i9 7900x. You will get droped frames on the 7700K. ryzen 1600 or 6800k would be your best budget fit. 6800k has almost the same price as 7700k. Best performance/cost ratio is ryzen 1600.

I don't agree other than the GTX 1050 TI cost less.
This gives a good general direction but exact numbers will differ depending on the rest of your hardware.
The GTX 1060 is approx 80% faster.

I don't want to get into overclocking.. at least not just yet. I want a motherboard and CPU that support it but don't intend to overclock.

I want out of the box performance for GPU.. especially as i'll be recording gameplay and live streaming

wow thanks for the info!!! I have never looked at the Ryzen.. i'll take a look. thanks so much !! will come back and update shortly..

My budget is £1000

Priority is a motherboard / cpu combo, something I can upgrade the GPU, Monitors etc down the line.
