Currently my setup consists of:
- i5 4460 3.20ghz
- 8gb ddr3 2133mhz RAM
- Samsung SSD 250gb and a 1tb HDD (I play games off my SSD)
- GTX 1050 ti
On games such as CSGO I get 280+ fps, Overwatch I get 160+ fps and PUBG I get around 75 fps (but drops to 60 sometimes). However, occasionally when I play these games I get sudden fps drops, stuttering with quite noticeable screen tearing or my game freezes for a few seconds (only PUBG). These problems never occur in csgo (or extremely rarely) but happens sometimes in overwatch (mainly stuttering and fps drops) and very often in PUBG (mainly freezing whenever I pick up weapons or open my inventory, there is also a very noticeable delay from when I click something and when it actually happens on the screen - probably freezing). When looking at task manager whilst on PUBG it showed that it was using 99% of my CPU and 7.8gb of RAM (at the peak) but never went below 7.2gb. Does this mean that upgrading my CPU to something like a i5 7600k 3.8ghz and getting 8gb more RAM would prevent the freezing, stuttering and sudden fps drops in PUBG and overwatch?
I was also thinking of purchasing a 144hz monitor to replace my 60hz monitor because I heard that it would stop the screen tearing. When I cap my fps on csgo at 60 fps I notice considerable screen tearing but when I set it to unlimited I don't notice it at all or very little (I also read that 60 fps is the minimum to have smooth gameplay and from what I experienced that was definitely not the case). Would this suggest that getting a 144hz monitor is pointless?
My setup is good and I am confused to why I am getting these problems so any solutions would help a lot.
