Which motherboard is the best

Which i7 CPU in particular? X99, X299 chipsets will support 128GB of RAM with an appropriate i7 or i9 (HEDT).... Mainstream i7, just like i5 and i3 are maxed out at 64GB with a 1xx or 2xx series chipset. Older than Broadwell or Skylake, Well, you're talking even less RAM than that.

Dont x299 boards support i7s? such as the i7 6800k?

i5-7640X is on X299 - Kaby Lake-X
i7-7740X is on X299 - Kaby Lake-X

I assumed OP talked about the consumer grade I7 LGA1151 as he didn't say otherwise.
