I am get a gaming pc soon and I know a little about PCs will a core i7 7700k and a gtx 1080 and 32 gb of ram be good for a gaming pc in 2017

Solution
16 gb Ram is enough if you are getting a 1080ti . Basically the ram larger than 32 gb is used for streaming of the game, so if you are not into it go for 16gb RAM with 1080 ti as 1080ti is much more powerful than 1080.
Here you can get the point score of 1080ti and other details. You can compare it with any other card and i guess 1080 ti is the best card uptill now :https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GTX+1080+Ti
for 1080 : https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?id=3502

The refresh rate is the speed at which your monitor refreshes your screen. What exact monitor will you use?

If it's 60hz, the i7 7700k is pointless and so is the GTX 1080. Just a waste of money as components for much cheaper can get the same job done.

Also, 32GB is overkill for gaming in general. Most games use beneath 8gb of ram, and only a handful are starting to use towards 16GB. 16GB of ram should be Anouilh for today's games and in the future.

You will understand about the RAM usage and your requirement. Plus its most obvious that you can run almost all the games in 1080 with a fairly good amount of fps.
