Steps to install new GPU

Hi

I am brain dead asking simple questions, but sometimes I get confused.

I have UEFI BIOS Asus Maximus VII Hero motherboard with Win 8.1 (planning to upgrade to Win10 in near future).
I have currently GTX 970. Just got GTX 1080.

What are the software installation steps.

If I have Secure Boot, do I need to disable it?

My BIOS is from November 2014, GTX 1080 is fairly new card, do I have to flash BIOS to the latest version?
If I have to flash BIOS, this basically will clear all BIOS settings, correct? I have CPU overclock, so I would have to do everything again (forgot already)?

Can I just update drivers through GForce Experience, or I need to do a clean install? It is just upgrade NVIDIA to NVIDIA? Can I just update NVIDIA driver first, to the lates version and then install GTX 1080?

Appreciate for suggestions as akways.

No, you dont need to flash new bios to make the 1080 work. Its totally fine. Its not necessary to use driver cleaners, just simply download the latest Nvidia driver and reinstall; While reinstalling , if you click custom install you will get an option for clean installation "Perform clean install";just select that and everything will be fine.
No, you dont need to update bios to use the GTX 1080; You do not need to disable secure boot. Yeah a bios update will remove all settings, but if you wish to update the bios, its not a bad idea as bug fixes or some optimizations may have been introduced in the new bios versions. But if you do wish to update the bios, do in an orderly fashion, like if you have bios version 1 and versions 2,3,4,5,6 are available; Download each bios version and flash the bios orderly and always use bios to update; never update the bios from windows.
And after plugging in the 1080, just reinstall the nvidia driver.

1| Uninstall your existing GPU drivers using DDU.
2| Shut down system.
3| Take out the older GPU and replace it with the new unit(making sure the PSU is capable of powering the new unit and has the necessary connectors.
4| After powering up the system, install the latest GPU drivers from Nvidia.

When you flash the BIOS to the latest some settings will only need tinkering with. Namely the AHCI settings within the storage controller and the BOOT order for your devices.

You may want to keep a note of the settings of your overclock on a piece of paper or via a picture to key in after you've flashed the BIOS in case they get set to default values.
