Hello,

I tried to add more RAM to my Thinkcentre m90p 5498 series. My current RAM is Ramaxel 2x2gb rmr1670ef48e8w-1333Mhz, inserted into memory slots 1 and 3 (according to this manual, page 9).

I couldn't find this model anywhere for sale (probably since it's from 2010), the closest model I could find was this, so I decided to try using a different vendor with the same RAM specs, and I bought two of these: https://patriotmemory.com/product/signature-line-2gb-1333mhz-single-module-2/ and I wanted to have 4x2GB RAM.

When I inserted them into my memory slots, the PC wouldn't post and kept turning itself off. I tried inserting the new memory sticks one by one, while keeping the old RAM inserted aswell. When in mem slot 2 (the closest to CPU), it wouldn't post. When in mem slot 4 (between the two old RAM sticks), it would post and let me enter bios, which recognized the memory and said I have 6 GB, but when the Windows splash screen appeared, the PC would turn off again, as if I cut power to the PC. When I removed the new memories, the PC works fine.

There are two visible differences between the RAM sticks
1) My old RAM has chips on both sides, while the new RAM has chips only on one side. Could it cause any compatibility issues?
2) Old RAM is labelled as UDIMM, while the new one is labelled as DIMM. When I searched for UDIMM, it said it means Unbuffered DIMM, and that DIMM sticks are unbuffered too. Is there any other meaning to UDIMM or are my old and new sticks really compatible?

Should I try to replace my old with the new RAM to see if it works on its own?

Solution
ThinkCentre M90p 5498 can support 4 x 4GB as well. NON-ECC memory type.

DIMM and UDIMM are used generally for NON-ECC
In some instances, UDIMM can also be used to refer ECC Unbuffered,

Unable to identify the part number rmr1670ef48e8w-1333Mhz. Single sided and double-sided does not make a difference.

One way to troubleshoot defective sticks, is to try installing one stick, keeping the other slots empty. Repeat this procedure to find out if all of the sticks are working fine alone.
