I live on a campus so there is no way to get a closer router, and there is no way to do a wired connection. I am currently using a Netgear A6100 usb (AC600) in my new pc build. The internet is extremely inconsistent, and I frequently time out. The wifi card on my macbook pro is far more consistent. Will I see significant improvement in performance (consistency) if I buy a rosewill n900pce?

I would go out on a limb and say yes, a PCIe card with proper antennas should be better than a USB dongle for the drops.

Your laptop's wifi card probably has a larger antenna compared to the USB, hence why it dosent drop.
You would probably see better results with a card like that. Not only is it better than a USB adapter, but if distance is an issue you will want the much larger antennas compared to the USB device.

About how long is the distance from you to the router? You may even want to look into a card with an extended antenna (Like the ASUS one in my sig).

It's less about the distance between you and the router and probably more about obstacles. I used to game only on WiFi and then my wife and I moved into a new house. My office is only about 15ft from the router but there is a 100yr old wall and a fridge between my antennas and the router so WiFi gaming comes with huge packet loss sometimes.

ALSO, I find that wireless gaming on anything less than a 5 Ghz band is not as reliable. So if you have a 5 Ghz net available make sure you are using that. "

I just noticed you are on a campus router too. At peak hours your connection will vary due to everyone being in the dorms at the same time. I tried playing a game on campus once and at the top of the hour when classes got out the connection would plummet. We're talking the difference of a 32ms delay to 400ms.

So I need to clarify my situation. My average ping is around 15ms while gaming. My problem is that I see random but semi-frequent complete drops of internet. I use a laptop to game sometimes in the same room and experience no trouble whatsoever. I guess what I am essentially asking is "Is the usb wifi adapter absolute crap / Is it the reason for the drops?" and "Will an antenna PCE be far better for consistency?"
