Clean Installation of Windows 10 from Windows 7

I am wanting to update my OS from Win7 to Win10 for a new PC I've built. I plan to place the current HDD with Windows 7 and my personal files into the new PC, then boot from USB and do a clean Windows 10 Installation.
My Question is; Firstly, will it work? And secondly, Will there be a Windows.old folder to retrieve the personal files. The Win7 disk is currently unable to boot and so I can't retrieve any of my files before going ahead with the clean Install of Windows 10.
Any advice is much appreciated :)

This won't work for multiple reasons:

A clean Win 10 install won't create the Windows.old to attempt to retrieve your stuff

2. The Win 7, and then the Win 10, won't be activated on your new hardware.

3. The Win 7 is unlikely to boot up in the new hardware.
