How much is enough these days when it comes to ram?

I mean, I have 8GB DDR3 1333Mhz and am able to run effortlessly heavy games such as Far Cry 4 and Crysis 3 without using much more than 70% of my ram(with chrome and 10 tabs open).

Light video editing is also effortless when it comes to my ram, it barely uses 50% of my 8GB.

But at the same time I'm seeing high end games that have come out in the last couple of years that demand at least 12GB!! They're rare but these games are starting to come out with that amazing minimum requirement, but that's basically all I've seen when it comes to more than 8GB being necessary these days.

And that's with an ancient cpu(FX6300) and a lowly GTX 750.

So, what would you say is the minimum, the average and the recommended amount of ram today?

I would say 4gb is the minimum (though I would never recommend that), 8gb is enough, and 16gb is good to have, but overkill (particularly with a 750 and Fx6300). I would upgrade your GPU or CPU before you get more RAM.

That being said, if you do intend to do heavy content creation, 16gb of ram can be useful.

Here where I live a good 8GB ram stick is very expensive, even a decent 4GB stick is still a bit on the costly side. Based on average needs and costs I would say that at least over here, 4GB would be the minimum, 6GB about enough 8GB recommended and 16GB more than enough(for the few that can afford it and really need it).
