The CPU I had previously was the Intel Celeron G1620 and the integrated graphics felt really slow along with the CPU performance, I've just recently upgraded to an i5-2500 and it feels a little better but I felt the graphics still felt the same.

So I got this old card off my friend thinking it'll be better, it is fine but I'm noticing a little lag here and there but nothing serious, is it any better than the integrated graphics I had before?

That is a pretty slow video card, may not be any better than the one in the CPU. Easy way to tell, install PassMark, run the video card tests without the card and with the card, compare scores.
