CPU overheating with a new motherboard

Hello. After several months I decided to replace my motherboard, the pc was just gathering dust for a few months because I used my laptop mostly. And now I bought a new motherboard and the CPU is 60C in IDLE and only if I try to refresh the desktop it jumps to 70C. Should get a new cooler? Buy thermal paste? Or just wait for him to get used to the new motherboard? A few hours ago it reached over 100C. Now it's staying at 60C.

Yeah, looking at that board, I am not seeing any heat sinks over the VRM which will make it rin warm naturally. I would replace the cooler if it were me. This is a great cooler for board with bad VRam cooling. I was having a very similar issue this is the fan I got. It works great amd is a very quite running fan. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06XP51521/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1505563640&sr=8-8&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=fm2+cpu+cooler&dpPl=1&dpID=41D5XzobNUL&ref=plSrch

There are some slightly less expensive coolers out there for the fm2 socket, so if you get one different from the one I suggested, just make sure it is a blow...

Make sure your cooler is seated properly, seems to be the only reason I could see. Getting new thermal paste wouldn't be TOO beneficial over any stock thermal pastes. However if you don't have any thermal paste at all then yes, you do need thermal paste.

That's the first thought I had.But everything is fine. It is properly seated.

Re apply thermal paste and see if that fixes it. If you don't have any thermal paste, buy Arctic MX-4 off of Newegg or just go to a computer shop and buy some. If that doesn't fix it, a new cooler may help. What's your current cooler? Stock? What is the CPU?

AMD Athlon X4 Black Edition with stock cooler. It's quite old but worked just fine until now. I guess I should get a new cooler.

There is absolutely no dust in my pc case. I spent about 1 hour cleaning it this morning. I will try with the paste. Thanks

There are some slightly less expensive coolers out there for the fm2 socket, so if you get one different from the one I suggested, just make sure it is a blow down cooler. On boards with poor VRM cooling, blow down coolers work better. You will also need some thermal paste, so go ahead and pick up a small tube of that also. No matter the fan, without thermal paste it won't transfer heat from the CPU very well.

I know the feeling. Fortunately hard drives are fairly inexpensive. You can get a couple terabytes now for the 60 dollar range for a low end, 100ish for a better one.

It's just annoying that everything decides to die in the same exact moment. Just replace motherboard, now HDD, agh.
