NVIDIA GeForce MSI GTX 970 cuts signal from HDMI

Hi there,
I recently purchased a NVIDIA GeForce MSI GTX 970. It runs everything fine, on the highest settings for pretty much every game I have.
However, after an undetermined amount of time, the HDMI signal to my monitor cuts out. I hear the fans on my 970 whirring very hard, then slowing down, then whirring loud again. The screen does not come back on, I hear no sound, no nothing. It's like the entire computer has crashed and the only way I can fix it is by turning it on and off again via power button.
The graphics card is second hand, and I've checked to see if it's overheating - which it absolutely isn't. It's weird how the card runs everything PERFECTLY and then cuts out after a while. It mostly does this with high end games like Witcher 3 but it's even done it with Skyrim, Payday 2 and now with TF2. This even occurs when I play on medium settings, and sometimes on low settings.

As a final note, I am VERY new to hardware. Please try not to give too technical terms in your answers or at least explain what they mean, dumb it down if you have to, I do want to learn!

My specs: (taken right from Speccy program)
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit
CPU: AMD FX-4300 / Vishera 32nm Technology
RAM: 8.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 803MHz (11-11-11-28)
Motherboard: Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. GA-78LMT-USB3 6.0 (Socket M2)
Monitor: LY19RECW (1024x768@60Hz)
GPU: 4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (MSI)
Storage: 931GB TOSHIBA DT01ACA100 ATA Device (SATA)
Optical Drive: ASUS DRW-24D5MT ATA Device
Audio: NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible) (WDM)

I also think it's important to mention that I bought this base computer, before adding in the 970, and I also bought a new power source but I'm pretty sure that's not the problem because I had a knowledgeable friend check and recommend it to me.
Base computer i bought:

I will definitely be upgrading my RAM to something that isn't off brand, and getting a better CPU. I don't know if this will fix my problem but I'm guessing that the issue might possibly be with my RAM somewhere.
Feel free to ask about anything else.

I really hope the problem doesn't lie with my GPU, and rather with the CPU or RAM, because I'll be upgrading those anyway.

Yeah, it's never been overclocked, literally just used as a stand in until they got a new graphics card, guy I got it from is totally trustworthy. I might try the new HDMI cable, I will let you know if it works. However the HDMI cable is also brand new haha. I've had this computer since December of 2016 and the graphics card since about March.

[strike]I figured out the answer myself. I noticed that on MSI afterburner, my temp limit was 70c. I also realised I was not using the fans on full power but rather on auto. After turning my fans up to full, I can comfortably play Dark Souls 3 at 50-60c, where it does not crash. I'm not sure if this will work for other games, but honestly it really should.
I figure that my case also had some bad airflow, as I had only one case fan. I've since upgraded this, so that's probably helped too.[/strike]

*EDIT* This does not work. It worked for maybe 2-3 days where I could play games, but now my GPU crashes my entire PC even at 50c. Which makes no sense. I really have no clue what's causing this now.

Hi Fuer, I've had the exact same problem as you. As soon as I boot up a high spec game my monitor disconnects and fan goes 100%, has it now been fixed completely? (I have NVIDIA GeForce 1070) if you have fixed it, how?

Hi there,
I've found out that my own solution doesn't work either, so I'm back to square one. It worked for a few days, but now crashes in the same manner as you described, even at 50c which makes no sense. It does not instantly crash but it seems to crash at completely random intervals... for no reason. My entire PC becomes unresponsive, screen cuts out, hear the fans whirr very loud then abruptly stop.
I was honestly considering upgrading to the 1070. But now you've told me this I'm worried the problem may still persist. I am going to go and take my PC to a specialist very soon, and I will let you know of any results.
