Hi there,
I recently purchased a NVIDIA GeForce MSI GTX 970. It runs everything fine, on the highest settings for pretty much every game I have.
However, after an undetermined amount of time, the HDMI signal to my monitor cuts out. I hear the fans on my 970 whirring very hard, then slowing down, then whirring loud again. The screen does not come back on, I hear no sound, no nothing. It's like the entire computer has crashed and the only way I can fix it is by turning it on and off again via power button.
The graphics card is second hand, and I've checked to see if it's overheating - which it absolutely isn't. It's weird how the card runs everything PERFECTLY and then cuts out after a while. It mostly does this with high end games like Witcher 3 but it's even done it with Skyrim, Payday 2 and now with TF2. This even occurs when I play on medium settings, and sometimes on low settings.
As a final note, I am VERY new to hardware. Please try not to give too technical terms in your answers or at least explain what they mean, dumb it down if you have to, I do want to learn!
My specs: (taken right from Speccy program)
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit
CPU: AMD FX-4300 / Vishera 32nm Technology
RAM: 8.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 803MHz (11-11-11-28)
Motherboard: Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. GA-78LMT-USB3 6.0 (Socket M2)
Monitor: LY19RECW (1024x768@60Hz)
GPU: 4095MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (MSI)
Storage: 931GB TOSHIBA DT01ACA100 ATA Device (SATA)
Optical Drive: ASUS DRW-24D5MT ATA Device
Audio: NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (Wave Extensible) (WDM)
I also think it's important to mention that I bought this base computer, before adding in the 970, and I also bought a new power source but I'm pretty sure that's not the problem because I had a knowledgeable friend check and recommend it to me.

I will definitely be upgrading my RAM to something that isn't off brand, and getting a better CPU. I don't know if this will fix my problem but I'm guessing that the issue might possibly be with my RAM somewhere.
Feel free to ask about anything else.
I really hope the problem doesn't lie with my GPU, and rather with the CPU or RAM, because I'll be upgrading those anyway.
