Hi,i bought my Asus A556UQ few days ago.
Specs: CPU : i7 7500U
GPU:nVidia 940mx 2gb gddr3
Ram: 4gb ddr4
SSD: samsung 850 evo 250gb
i ve got problems in some games.When i play overwatch i have 60 fps , (gpu 100% , CPU 40-50%) then it hits a lag spike and i have 20-10fps (gpu 0-10% usage, CPU 100% 401MHz)
I dont know why when it lagspikes it seems like the CPU is underclocking itself. Can my 4gb ram be the problem ? I do NOT have lag in League of Legends, World of Tanks , CSGO, but in some games like overwatch, Euro Truck Simulator 2 ,Dirty Bomb it stutters .

Solution
well, run Unigine Valley and Heaven and see if they run smoothly (ignoring transition to new scenes).

Those will stress the GPU quite a bit so we can see if it's overheating and forcing throttling.

*and was there much difference on WALL vs BATTERY power?

Ok, but i ve seen lower spec laptops that don t do that. I get lagspokes after 2 minutes of playing. PS i m using a cooler if that helps

That does not appear to be temperature related, since when it drops in FPS the CPU and GPU usage are very low so it wouldn't be above temp at that point, unless it's only going down for several seconds then JUMPING UP AGAIN?

Nor should it throttle down that much AFAIK. I though it would throttle more subtly than that. 401MHz?

It does NOT appear to be the 4GB of system memory as the issue (though I'd definitely upgrade to 8GB by googling for an identical stick and/or using pcpartpicker):

So I'm a bit stumped.

*Have you tried on WALL POWER vs BATTERY, and also check the power management to see what rules are in place?

FPS drops in Overwatch are being reported by other people. It's a couple months old now, but here's one quote:
"I am getting under 20FPS at low settings when I used to get up to 120FPS on high settings."
and

"pre-update I was getting 120-130 with everything on max and after the update now I have drastic fps drops to 20-40 fps, making it almost unplayable mostly on team fights"

Does that sound familiar?

(Again though, 4GB is really not enough for modern gaming. Most of them are probably fine but I know some are not)

Solution
You can change the battery vs wall power profile in (Power Options?).

Having said that, there are SOME laptops that can't sustain power delivery even when wall power is on as they appear to always draw power from the battery even on wall power, so if it can't charge fast enough you may drop to a lower setting after a while (or not).

So a couple things then:
1) Batter6 power - may be able to change the settings for how CPU, screen brightness etc works

2) Wall Power - may or may not drop to lower profile after sustained usage (relates to the above comment about battery charging)
