Hey guys,
About 2 years ago I built my own computer from scratch, using the following specs:
- CPU: Intel Corei7-4790K
- GPU: GTX 780 Ti Windforce OC (Gigabyte)
- RAM: 16GB Corsair RAM
- PSU: Corsair 900W Silver psu
- Motherboard: ASUS Maximus VII Hero
Since then, whenever playing high-end games (Star Wars BF, Just Cause 3, Arma III, PUBG), my computer will randomly (as far as I can tell - there are no noticeable patterns) freeze, with the game shutting down and giving me an error along the lines of: "Rendering device lost." Not this exactly, but always along these lines. This never occurs with lower-end games, such as Minecraft or Terraria. I've put up with it for a long time, but I've decided to finally try and fix it - however, I have no idea which component is causing this error to occur. I'm pretty sure it's not the RAM, as I ran memtest and it returned 0 errors. Any help with troubleshooting would be massively appreciated.
Thanks!

Also, sorry if I've left out any required information - if it's needed, I'll put it up as soon as possible.

Solution
Ok, so I believe I have chanced upon a fix - at leAst, I haven't crashed at all yet in both Overwatch and PUBG, whereas I usually do so once every game.

I first underclocked completely my GPU, effectively cancelling the factory OC. I have done this before, though it never helped. However this time, using Gigabyte's OC Guru, I prioritised GPU temperature and decreased the target GPU performance from 100% to around 90%, thus lowering the average temp and power consumption of the GPU. With these two options COMBINED, the crashes appear to have stopped. I'll put an update if it starts happening again. Hopefully this can help anyone else with my problem.
try this:
1. Set your components to factory default speeds to resolve crashes due to overclocking.
2. Try closing background applications to resolve any software conflicts.
3. If your computer locks up and becomes unresponsive, check for overheating components.
4. Missing or corrupted Windows system files may cause this error. Use System File Checker to repair and replace system files.

does the error says something like this?:
Display Driver Stopped Responding and has Recovered

if so, then u're experiencing what i went through too, got that kind of error few months ago

this might be able to fix it:

Yeah that's the error. I'll check out your solution and give feedback when I've done it. It may take a while, as it tends to be a bit random.

by any chance do you running those games with the Nvidia's DSR feature?

i had that kind of problem with that feature (especially on warframe, crashes all the time)
though, mine's gone after sometime (except on warframe, i still get those crashes if i use that feature)
