HDD makes noise after installing new motherboard

HDD Toshiba DT01ACA 500GB, 7200rpm, 32MB cache, SATA III 3 years old and this year was just gathering dust , haven't used it because I needed a new motherboard. I bought an ASUS A68HM motherboard and the HDD makes a clicking noise like it's loading something then makes another noise and repeat. I'm afraid to leave the PC on because of this noise. What could it be? There is no dust. Also the HDD gets really hot, really fast. I touched it and after a few seconds was really hot. I doubt it's a dying HDD because it worked just fine in the past.. and it's not that old.

swing arm locking, the clicks most likely the ratchet cog that protects from over torque.
disk getting hot because the swing arm mechinism isnt moving correctly, meaning constant spool time on the disk as its searching for the sectors.

working in the past and working now are 2 different things. crash a car, it was working this morning .... meaningless. (sorry if that sounded rude).

Update: There are 3 or 4 ports to connect the SATA III cable and I kept swapping them. Now the clicking noise is just once a few minutes not constant. Also what is AHCI,SATA & RAID connections? I checked the motherboard book but I really don't know. Now the HDD it's set up as AHCI, should I change it? Also BIOS says the HDD temperature it's only 27-30C.

I checked youtube for the "click of death" sound and it's not the same. Idk, I might record it or something. It's not "click,click,click" It's like a thick click and it makes another sound like it's loading then stops.

EDIT: also no errors,blue screens, checked for errors from properties... nothing.

AHCI,SATA & RAID connections are exactly that, they are the connections used to take information from your hdd.
their format differs slightly as to what kind of control you are trying to get from the hdd.
eg raid is for connecting several exactly the same hdds together, general rule of thumb: raid turns several hdds into 1, the others do differnt jobs depending on the raid config. mirror / stripe / etc
eg sata is the default drive connector for most hhds/ssd/sshd/disk
eg ahci is the controller that allows hotswapping of devices and can aide in control of ssd comand queue.

The HDD wasn't plugged correctly I guess. I took it out, plugged it back with the other cable from the power supply and now the only noise it makes it's very, like very low, sounds like something it's working inside. I don't know if it's bad or not. I'm not really good at explaining this.
