Hi everyone,
So I am getting the itch to see about possibly upgrading the majority of my setup. Here is what I am working with now. I would love to do a custom water cooling loop but I may be short for now on the budget and it may have to wait another month or two.
Things I will be keeping for the build
Case: Corsair 760t
Psu: EVGA supernova 850
PSU Cooler: h110i gtx (If I have to keep for now I would like to as my goal is a custom loop)
SSD: Samsung evo 850
Fans: 7 Corsair 140mm af fans (only using 6 for now as I bought an extra when on sale) , 1 corsair 120mm af fan
Monitor: Overlord Tempest 1440p 100hz (dvi input only :/) but its paid for
Things I am looking to replace (this is where the advice comes in please and thank you)
Cpu: intel 4790k ( I have played with OCing and was able to hit 4.7ghz stable at 1.28v without a problem and temps never went over 64c in cinebench with a score of 944, but i run it at stock all the time, I just wanted to see if I won the solicon lottery and have been told I did
Ram: DDR3 32gb hyper X
video card: 270x toxic (I had the 980 ti hybrid I sold to increase the budget for getting to a 1080ti)
MBoard: MSI Z97a gaming 7
optical drive: dvd cd/rw ( I have used it once in three years, thinking of losing it to expand the case to house a 420mm rad in the front as well as the top.
My thoughts so far were to buy a reference 1080 ti since it will go on water but the prices for reference cards seem to be rediculous!! (I usually shop amazon for the hassle free prime but it seems like this everywhere). I didnt want to spend over 750 on a card for fancier fans that I would like to just remove.
CPU
I am also leaning towards the ryzen 7 1700x as it is $100 cheaper than the 1800x and with a little OC it would be basically the same cpu.
Motherboard
I also was leaning towards the ASUS ROG Crosshair VI Hero (WI-FI AC)
Ram
I am torn, I have been used to the 32 gb but bet I have rarely come close to using it all (guess I just like the full look in the case lol) I was looking at Corsair 16gb ddr4
GPU
I wanted a 1080ti reference card to add an EKWB to in the next month or so but they are priced higher than ever! And I need help finding a decently priced card that i can put on water.
My budget is to stay at about $1600 and trying to manage all this is tough. I thought I could get the majority of things for this price range
1700x - $310
DDR4 16gb - $160
MBoard- $250
1080ti- $725
Which puts me at $1445
I could then sell my current parts plus the money left over to buy the parts for my custom loop.
My other thoughts:
Buy the card and water parts and build my loop and customize the 760t case the way I would like. puts me around $1200ish.. Then wait to see what intel does next month, or possibly hold off until a possible ryzen 2 within the next 6 months (not sure if it will really be announced though) or save my pennies until the end of the year for possible threadripper?
I am kind of all over the board and have no one to bounce these thoughts off of so any help would be appreciated.
Thanks for your time!
