Will a MSI GTX 1070 Fit my Older Motherboard (ASRock Z68 EXTREME4 GEN3 LGA 1155)

Solution
It will fit and run no problem. That board is PCIe 3.0

The issue for you is even the fastest CPU on that board will be a bit of a bottleneck. Now that doesn't mean you're going to have problems, however it will prevent you from getting the maximum framerate out of the 1070, and some games that are highly CPU bound may have performance issues because of it.

Yeah i want to upgrade the GPU so i can play PUBG. I'm using an i2500k on this MOBO oc'd to 4.4 ghz.
Do you think i will see a significant performance increase going with the 1070 here for pubg?

Should be fine, I don't think that game is super demanding on the CPU, as long as you have a good network connection.

Rogue is very right about the bottleneck though. I would recommend you get a 1050. You'll save a ton of money and PUBG will still be perfectly playable.

It's demanding on the CPU when you first get dropped and there are 100 players, but half the time you can barely tell the difference between 100 and 80fps anyways because the servers are so laggy that they give you stutters. Gets a lot better once there are 60 players or less remaining. 2500k should be fine for PUBG if it's got a decent OC. If you have a stock 2500k I'd OC a bit since it will really make a difference.

@wiseoxejah but a lot of people aren't looking for just "playable," they want a good experience. I have a 4670k and a 980 ti, which isn't really that much faster on the CPU side than his system and I get great FPS in PUBG. I get seasick under 60fps really quickly so I shoot for at least 100fps on a 144hz monitor and the 980 ti gives me that.

I would say that a 1050 would be plenty if he is sticking with 1080p. Any more and I doubt the CPU will keep up. Just saying with a 1070 he's paying for resources he can't use.

I don't agree, the CPU while not the best is not THAT far behind, and a lot of people have different definitions of playable. While somewhat of a bottleneck I would rather guarantee I'll have well over 60fps all the time. I have the same issue as chemmajorp (sickness in FPS at low frame rates).

You have a different definition of playable. For a lot of folks 30fps doesn't cut it, and they'd like to have the eye candy too. if he can afford it why not.

The max I would ever pair with a 2500k is a 1060, and that's pushing it. If he's getting a 1070 he either needs to upgrade to an i7, switch to a newer architecture like skylake or kaby lake, or both.
