I've just bought a 4TB WD MyPassport. It appeared in Disk Management as two unallocated partitions which I assume is because it's using MBR rather than GPT? Having created a simple volume of 2TB on one of the partitions I was hoping I'd be able to convert this to GPT but those options do not seem to be available. Do I have to enable UEFI or something in the BIOS? If so, which options must I set? I have a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P rev 2.0 motherboard. Thanks.

Actually you could have converted the drive to GPT partitions with Disk Management instead of using DiskPart. As long as there's no data on the drive you simply right-click the "Disk (number)" of the particular drive (far left block of DM) and select the option "Convert to GPT Disk". But there's certainly no harm in using DiskPart to achieve the same goal.

Assuming there is no data on there, delete ALL partitions, and create a new GPT using the whole space.
