I am looking to hardwire my home for internet. I literally know nothing about accessing walls and snaking cables and all that. I have a 2 floor condo and the reception upstairs is horrid. I would honestly rather just pay someone who knows what their doing versus trying it myself or god forbid causing some kind of damage.

My question is this: Who do I call for this kind of service? I've tried googling it, but all I get are self-help/DIY articles. Do I call a Handyman? An Electrician? The IT company from my office? Does anyone have an experience in wiring a home? Any information or opinions you could offer would be extremely appreciated.

Thanks!

An installer (either an electrician, or low voltage installer) terminates the in-wall cabling, because they start with a spool (or bulk box) of cable and then cut it to length. They terminate the cable at the wall plate or the central patch panel.
You then use jumper cables to connect the equipment and router or switch to form a network.

Where do you find an installer? Google for the terms I listed "low voltage cable installation", "data cable installation", "audio video cable installation" and your city. Talk to at least three different installers.

Depending on where you live, there may be low voltage cable installation specialists. Audio/Video cable installation technicians will be capable. Otherwise, an electrician can get the cables in. An electrician may or may not be comfortable in terminating the in-wall cabling.

I'm a little confused. Why would the electrician have to terminate the in-wall cabling? Is that how it works? They have to tear down any preexisting cabling and completely redo it for electrical and any other cabling that needs to be added? They can't just add to existing cabling? Also, where does one find low voltage cable installation specialists or Audio/Video cable installation technicians? Like through the cable company?

They wouldn't if all you wanted was a stub of wire sticking out of the wall instead of a proper wall jack. You'd still need to intall the ends though and if not with jacks then with plugs.

Low voltage wiring experts include telephone and network installers. Alarm companies also may do a good job and are used to making things as invisible as possible.

Usually people just look for two outlets on the same wall in a line (one upstairs and one down) and simply drop a cable down from the upstairs outlet. Or if they aren't as concerned about appearances they'll simply drill two holes and staple the cable outside like with telephone or TV cable.
