Hello,

When playing a game where the cpu runs at around 70-80%, the average cpu core temps are around 88C.

If I run cpu-z stress test, it instantly goes to 99-102C. I suppose that running it for more than 10seconds would increase it even more, no?

What do you guys think?
Send it back?

Greetings

I'd be much more concerned with the cooling solution. Fan turning? Heat sink actually rated/approved for 90+ watts? Sticker removed from bottom of heat sink? thermal compound applied? Heat sink locked/tightened down correctly?

Finally, what is the core voltage shown in CPU-z at 4.5 GHz?

It's a big cooler like this:

I had it on my i5 cpu, but now I upgraded to an i7 and I just took the same cooler.
I cleaned the pad with rubbing alcohol to remove all old thermal paste. I applied new paste and mounted it (new mobo too)

I'll check the core voltage when I get home, but it should all be stock settings. I didn't overclock anything (yet).

The cover is removed and the fan is turning.
How can I be sure it's also attached properly?

Also, the temperature reacts really quickly. Within half a second of starting the cpuz test, it goes super hot, and also within half a second of turning the stresstest off again, it goes back to normal.

I found the issue.
The CPU casing had a dent on it, like a corner of a sharp object hit it.
Because of that, there was very bad thermal contact between the CPU and the heatsink.

I filed down the soft metal from the CPU casing which was dented out, to make it perfectly flat again.
It operates flawlessly now ;)
