Hey guys, over the last year or so my PC has become much slower and I think it's my CPU. I want to replace it with an I7 but I'm not sure what's compatible with my current build. What CPU would you guys recommend?
Here's my build:
CPU- AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor

Motherboard- ASRock 970 Extreme3 R2.0 ATX AM3+

RAM- GeIL EVO POTENZA 8GB (4 x 4GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 2400 (PC4 19200) Desktop Memory Model GPB48GB2400C16DC

Storage- Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB

Video Card- MSI GeForce GTX 1070 DirectX 12 GTX 1070 GAMING X 8G 8GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support ATX Video Card

Case- Cougar Solution (Black) ATX Mid Tower

Power Supply- XFX TS Series P1550SXXB9 550W ATX12V 2.2 & ESP12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Bronze Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Solution
ur mobo slot is AM3+
it'll only fit the most FX lines, so u can't except if u change the whole part (mobo, CPU, since u said ur RAM is DDR4 u might not need to change it)
ur CPU is pretty slow to begin with, it'll bottleneck ur 1070

Suggestion:
upgrading to Ryzen is a good stuff

R5 1600 comes with a stock cooler which is good enough for stock clock and light OC, so u'll be fine :)

PSU is still a tier 3 one so if u have extra money and u want to OC too, the higher tier is better + safer :)

It is DEFINITELY the CPU holding you back.
What is your budget? The optimal solution would be to convert to either Zen or Kaby-Lake but that would mean replacing your RAM and Motherboard. If a platform conversion isn't possible, the best option would be the FX-8370, but that might mean having to get a new power supply considering it draws 35 more watts than the 6300.

Oh okay, so if I just need those two replaced and it'll be fine and they're compatible with my other stuff? I wouldnt need anything else? What power supply would you recommend?

Probably 400-500

Quad-core Ryzen CPU on an Overclockable motherboard with a great cooler, 16GB RAM and a new and reliable power supply.

is ur RAM really DDR4? coz from what i see, the mobo u have only supports DDR3...
something like this perhaps then (I include RAM and PSU there)

unless u're doing/planning on SLI later on, i rather go with a B350 instead
the stock cooler from AMD is good enough (at least for light OC) / if u still want the aftermarket one, u can use the one that GamingEnthusiast420 mentioned
while the PSU is tier 1, the wattage might be pretty narrow should u upgrade to a 1080ti later on
the CPU are strong enough to handle 1440p and even 4k

Okay sounds good, definitely no way of getting 16gb RAM? Even it there was a way, would it effect that much? I stream too

Sounds good, would that CPU handle streaming? I would be using Nvidia NVENC anyway

changed my list a bit, taking GamingEnthusiast420's PSU there which seems to be in a good price (50$ for a tier 1 PSU gold quality? hell yeah!)

in stream, u would benefit from the extra cores that R5 1600 had (6c/12t), what GamingEnthusiast420 made is pretty good, except that he choose to go with a more expensive mobo and sacrifice the CPU instead (opting for the 4c/4t one), which i wouldn't agree, unless u really need a SLI-capable mobo...

i already upgraded the RAM to 16 GB
More ram means better ability to multitask, while depending on the game, games like GTA V and Witcher 3 [games with big maps, textures, etc] are RAM eaters, combine that with streaming and it can get to that 8gb limit quite quick which will result in big stuttering
so yes, the 16 GB will help

Would I get a little better build with a budget of 650? I just really wanna be able to stream a game like PUBG with 60+ fps

actually u can, just upgrade to R7 [R5 is already enough, but getting this upgrade is a viable choice too] and u're set, the core/thread count will already be more than enough to stream smoothly, it'll all comes back to your internet speed, and the goodness of your GPU, and spec wise? it's enough :)
