Building new gaming rig and new to the stuff. Looking at a i7 6700k maybe 7700k depending on price when I order. And a msi m7 270 motherboard.

My question is what is the best for ram. Lower or higher cas latency? or the actual mhz over the latency. What am I needing to look for. 2x8gb of course.

Solution
I don't recommend going with one stick of ram. It will cut your bandwidth in half. Now if you say planned to buy another stick in a month....then maybe. But even this is a risk because mixing ram (even same make and model) doesn't always work because manufactures can do small changes that make sticks incompatible. If you using a very short time frame for one stick so you can afford another and thus higher overall capacity an argument can be made for doing that. Anything else though...it is a bad idea. So buy 2 sticks unless you plan on getting another in the VERY near future.

Okay. Last question I hope. I'm going for at least 16gb. I found a I piece 16gb 3200 16 cl for cheaper than a 2 pack. Could I get one now and then order the same exact one later on if I want to add more ram. Or should I just buy the 2x8gb pack. Or will the one 16gb stick work well?

What would you recommend?

Okay. Thank you very much on your info. Ive heard that about the packs. I didn't know if 1 16gb would be the same as 2x8gb. Or which would have been better in that case.
