If I plugged in my HD Audio incorrectly, with only the top half plugged in, is that why my sound is buggy?

When I first plugged in my HD Audio cable to my motherboard that plugs into my front panel audio jack, I accidentally plugged it into only the top row of pins, with the other half off of the plug hanging off, not plugged in. Once I fixed it, my front panel audio stays at max volume, even if volume mixer says it is at a smaller number, and the microphone doesn't work at all. My audio drivers are up to date, and this problem does not occur on the I/O plugs. Is this problem because of that temporary incorrect plugging? (I did turn on and use my computer while it was unplugged)I have the ASRock AB350 Pro4 MB and the Corsair Carbide 200R case.

I have the AB350 Pro4 by ASRock, and yes, it is the correct cord, and I will do that. Thank you.
