Router Capping Internet Speed

So XFinity came and replaced my personal modem with a new modem that also supports TV (as I now have TV in my plan.) If I use ethernet from the modem, I get the correct speed, 160-180 Mbps. However, when I connect ethernet or wirelessly to my router, I get 9.4 Mbps, everytime, without fail. Before this switch, I would get 120 Mbps on ethernet and 80-90 on wireless. My router is a year old Netgear NightHawk AC-3200. This router is more than capable of these speeds, so why am I getting this slow connection?

NOTE: The modem and the router are connected using a cat 6 cable. The router to my PC is cat 5e. The cable used for my modem to laptop was 5e.

If you really saw 10Mbps on the wan port then you have issues on both the router and the pc which means it is not likely your pc. Are you using the same cable to connect your pc to the modem and you did to connect the router to the modem. These problems tend to be bad cables it is very rare for a port to go bad.
That speed is close to what you would get on a 10mbps ethernet with the overhead. Not sure if you router shows the wan port speed. It really seems that the speed negotiated to 10mbps. Try swapping cables around and see if it is any different. A cable can be just slightly defective and function fine on some device and have trouble on others.

If you really wanted to test the router you could load iperf on your laptop and computer and connect one to the wan and other to the lan. You could then see how much traffic you could force though the router. This is sorta how the testing sites benchmark routers.

I checked the WAN, it was at 10 Mbps, so I connected used their modem as my router (its a modem/ router combo) and every device gets the proper speed except my desktop that is on ethernet directly to the modem/router. Could it be a mobo problem with my PC? It got 60 Mbps for about 5 minutes, the connection dropped, and now ethernet gets me about 8 Mbps. I have had RAM problems in the past, so I feel like my mobo could be a problem.

I am, thank you, I will call the electrician. Will give an update when the cord is fixed.

Before you spend a lot of money buy a long cable and just string it over the floor to test. That will quickly prove if the in wall cable is bad It seldom is the wall cable itself it is almost always the ends. If it has wall jacks you may be able to reterminate them yourself.

I used the cable on my laptop, got the same crappy speeds, then tested my laptop using a small 5e cord that I had laying around and it worked fine. The problem most definitely is the cable, I already plugged it into the modem in different ports. The problem is, its fished through the wall, but I dont think it can be anything but the cable at this point.
