I just got a new processor and a new motherboard but I'm afraid I was too quick to purchase. I got a amd fx 8370 8 core and a gigabyte z170x gaming motherboard. I tried installing the CPU but it didn't feel right trying to put it in and I didn't want to damage a $175 CPU. So I'm just wondering if the two are compatible.

Solution
No, those two do not work together. The Z170 motherboard is for Intel CPU’s only which are socketed for the 1151 chips (Skylake, Kaby Lake). Your AMD chip will work with an AM3+ motherboard. Make sure that you didn’t bend any pins in the socket on the mother as this is ridiculously hard to fix.

If I were you, I would keep the motherboard and return the chip. Buy an Intel chip from the Skylake series and throw it in there.
