Recently, I upgraded from a GTX MSI 970 4GB to an ASUS 1070 8GB, alongside with 16GB RAM.

To be honest, I don't feel much has changed. I might have gotten a few more FPS, but I can't tell. I am not dissapointed or anything, just want to make sure the card isn't holding back.

System specs:
Intel Quad Core i7 2600k 3.4ghz
Asus 1070 8GB
16GB RAM
Windows 7 64-Bit
1920x1080.

P.S: What type of FPS should I expect with a game like GTA V? Performance is all over the place for me, going as high as 90, to low as 27.

Solution
If you want to track the speed difference in hard numbers, run a benchmark like 3DMark, compare scores between the two cards. Your CPU is decent but a bit old, it is probably holding back your new 1070 card.

You would probably feel the performance difference when playing in full specs or even some titles in 4k, specially in VR. And don´t forget that many games nowadays are optimized to use more cores, so probably going for a 6 or 8 cores CPU could make a good difference...
