New build CPU light blinking

I built a computer about a year ago. I bought a new PSU, CPU, GPU, but put it all in an old case that I had, because looks didn't matter to me. It worked fine for about maybe 9 months or so, when it started crashing (blue screen with the frowning emoticon). It did this another time when it was running War Thunder, and it never booted again after that. Before I continue further, here are the specs:

  • i5 6600k, never overclocked
    32 GB DDR4 2133 RAM (stupid decision, I know)
    H110M4-C23 motherboard
    GTX 960 with 4GB VRAM
    500W PSU (RX500 from Raidmax)

Now, my initial thought was that it was the power supply. I went to the computer repair shop in my town and had the guy test out different power supplies, but none of them worked. I ordered a new motherboard (H110M PRO-VHL) but it didn't work either. No post, no boot, nothing. Num-lock does nothing. Maybe it was the combination of the motherboard/PSU/CPU, I don't know. Maybe all of it got fried together or something (I did have it plugged into a surge protector I think). Anyway, I ended up getting RMAs requested on the CPU and the RAM, and I tried those too.

So fast forward to today, and I've been putting together my new build. Here are the specs:

  • i5 6600k (I got a replacement but I did try it in the faulty computer, which was probably dumb)
32 GB DDR4 2133 RAM (I got brand new replacements, came in today. I've only use 1 stick)
    H110| Pro AC (mini-ITX)
650W PSU (Photon 650 from Rosewill)
GTX 1080 with 8GB VRAM (though I wouldn't dare to even unbox it until I can get the computer running, I'm trying integrated graphics first)

It's also a liquid build, but I haven't tried putting any liquid in my loop yet. I just wanted to turn it on for a nanosecond to see if it would work. That's when the CPU LED started flashing, and boy did it break my heart. I've tried the RAM in both slots. It's almost 5 in the morning so I'm going to try to reseat the CPU tomorrow, but based on my previous experience, I have a feeling this isn't the issue. All of the power connectors are in right. Maybe when I tried the replacement CPU in the old build I fried it too? Maybe I broke the motherboard? It did seem to bend when I was putting connectors in. Ugh, what a mess.

Anyways, thanks for reading and I apologize for writing you a novel.

Solution
Ok, I figured it out. I got some rest and I took everything apart the next morning. I think a standoff was shorting the motherboard, because when I ran it outside of the case, it worked. I feel kind of stupid now. Also, it wouldn't power up when I had my SDD/HDD plugged into the PSU, and I figured out it was because I was using an "aftermarket" cable. I bought a pack of blue cables to go with the color scheme, and even though the wires and sockets seem exactly identical, the (modular) PSU seems to only accept the ones that came with it. My 2TB HDD seems to be DOA because I can't get that to work, but my older 1TB HDD works, so I'm using that for now. It's really going to fall apart soon though, so I'll have to replace that soon...
