Can someone please help, I have 20 years of memories stored in this portable HDD and it is not working.

My system: Windows 7
Portable HDD: Transcend SATA HDD 1TB

* I was copying files into it for storage
* My computer hang during the copying process.
* I forcely restarted the computer, then the HDD would not show in "my computers"
* Opening up the Disk Management, it is shown but Not Initialized
* So I tried to initialize using MBR, then it shows "Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)."
* So I inialized again using GPT, it worked now.
* Disk is now initialized, but without a volume

-->After reading suggestions for how to fix a CRC - use CHKDSK, which needs to locate a disk volume
* So I assigned a simple Volume, to E:, but CHKDSK doesn't work...
* In the Disk Management the HDD shows Healthy. But kept on asking me to format it!!!

I so wish to have the data back.
Can someone help.
Is there a way, even if purchasing a disk check software is needed.

Many many thanks

CRC errors suggest that the hard drive is starting to crash. The only thing you might want to try is a different USB cable, but I suspect that by running chkdsk, you caused irreversible damage and are likely now at the point where professional data recovery services are your only option.

Is the data worth at least $300? If so, it is probably worth sending it out.

Thanks DR_Luke...
I also received this suggestion from some friends, and this confirmed my worry, that I must spend some bucks.
I'll send it out for professional service.

This just taught me to store data in different places!
