Is it worth it for coffee lake

Hi there, ive been waiting for coffee lake i7 8700k to be released for a while now, along with the new 300 series motherboards. My question is is it actually worth waiting for the i7 8700k or am i better off going with the i7 7700k or a i7 7800x? Im taking into account the price for coffee lake and the 300 series motherboards on release will be quite expensive.

Additional info that could be useful is im located in Australia (if that means its going to be more expensive than the US) and GPU is a 1080ti. And if anyone knows when coffee lake is going to be available in Australia.

Wait for Coffee lake. The platform will be new and should be supported for a while. Intel is dropping Z270 support, so you'll be stuck with an outdated platform for as long as you decide to keep the system. You might as well just wait for Coffee lake since it comes out in early October anyways.

Well, no one really knows right now. Wait a couple of weeks and we will know. If you are just interested in gaming, then I would not go for the 7800x. Actually, I would not go with any of the Skylake X lineup. As for the 7700k vs the 8700k, I suspect that they will perform very similarly in gaming as the architecture has not changed. But if the 8700k has the same power and heat issues as Skylake X, then it may be a disappointment.

Alright so i should wait for coffee lake, hopefully it comes out soon and isn't too expensive as i feel my system is bottle necking with the 1080ti and i5 3570k.

The new Z370 chipset will replace Z270. The processors should cost roughly the same to their Kaby Lake predecessors. For example; the 7700k costs $339, so the 8700k will replace it at the same price point.

Thanks for your help, i didn't want to go x299 as there is a large price increase and my system will be primarily for gaming.

Wouldn't even consider anything on the x299 chipset , too many caveats & limitations have been put on that by Intel themselves.

7700k , still a great chip , dead socket by all accounts soon though.

You've got 6c/12t on the new i7's , 6 cores non hyperthreaded on the new i5's - I'd actually consider the new i5's to likely be a better gaming option than the 8700k.
The lack of hyper threading means better base clocks out of the box & probably more overclocking headroom.
Plainly coffee lake isn't any more efficient than kaby because Intel appear to have dropped base clocks on the newer chips to maintain similar tdp's to kaby lake.

Considered ryzen at all ?? Its doing well now its optimised better , although I can understand sticking with Intel if you're running a 144htz+ screen.

Im planning to eventually get a 1440p 144hz monitor, dont really wanna go with amd as i have an nvidia gpu.
