Hello,

So since a few days i have a really high ping while playing CS:GO. So I wrote a message to Steam asking if it came from their side. With a reply and still no answer on my question I was wondering if it may be because i use a Repeater. I am currently connected to a repeater that has a 3 to 4 bar signal to re diffuse it into my room. Zhen i ping for example www.google.com i get a response of 32 ms. When i play games (does not matter wich online game, I get a latency of 300 to 500. This is really annoying for me. I need to tell you that i am wired on the repeater. When i do not move in a game or when I afk or do not choose any side or whatsoever i have a ping around 52. When i get closer to people it shoots up to 500 untill i quit the game and stop playing. I hope that you can help me further into resolving this issue.

Regards

I have a NetGear repeater to boost the wifi signal upstairs and it creates horrible lag spikes. Things run fine, then stall, then fine, then stall. It feels like it has to constantly renegotiate its connection to the router. So at least I can say you are not alone. Fortunately, I my main computer is plugged directly into my router and the repeater is just for netflix.

Hi,

Playing FPS on wireless is not recommended as it is subject to interference. Especially these days; wifi is saturated.

Next, how many people and repeaters does the network have. The more people, the more repeaters, the more latency you will have.
Did you try to reboot everything?

dextermat, yes i did reboot everything. I have one primary one that is connected to the internet and the one i am on now that is connected to the primary one. There are currently 4 people using the connection but only 2 the repeater. I started to encounter this issue the 12th of September but before everything was just fine.

Thanks for replying this quick!

Any changes in Internet service providers? Also could try calling your ISP about this. You said it only occurs in games, are you sure you are playing in the correct region, this can be a massive culprit that people don't tend to realize. What games are doing this to you?

Alright, well your ping when doing those tests don't show your ping to certain servers, just your nearest location that uses these servers. While downloading assets from online you can experience lag, I am aware you said this is a new problem. The more frames you have to load, the more latency im sure you will experience.

Having higher framerate doesnt effect latency at all, thats not how things work. Connection speed also has nothing to do with connection quality (Tho there is a minimum threshold to reach but OP is way above that). Matter of fact I had almost the same connection speed OP listed, even less (8.7mpbs dl / 0,7 mbps ul) and never had problems with my ping.

Try using a cable, gaming on wifi is generally a bad idea especially in games like CS:GO. Make sure there are no malwares on your pc. If you have a spare pc / laptop play a couple of test rounds there. If the problem persists call your ISP.

No it wasn't stronger at all. Look at the numbers 11,68 / 0,67 for him and I had 8,7 / 0,7. My upload was a tiny tiny tiny bit better thats all still never had probelms. Distance to the server has an effect on your connection, speed has no effect (after a reaching a small basic threshold).

Streaming gameplay is a completly different story than only playing games, and OP isnt talking about streaming, only regular playing. And no speed is not the biggest factor, distance from the server and network stability are the biggest factors. What do you think why could people play older multiplayer games and mmos with 128 and 256 kbps connections without lag? Read a bit about connections and network on google dont confuse people with misinformation.

I have figured out that the high ms happens in all sort of games and i cannot manage to find a Contact page to my ISP. I live in France and my ISP is Orange. Maybe you can help me out finding it?
