Hello, I am thinking about upgrading my current PC, my budget is $350. So far my specs are;
Fx-4300
Rx-460 2gb
Evga 450W
16gb ram
GA-78LMT-SC mobo
Im thinking about upgrading my cpu, to a Ryzen 3 1300X, with a new am4 mobo, and 8gb of ddr4 RAM.
But I was wondering if there are any other options for an upgrade within that budget. Thank you!
Also I mostly play these games;
StarCraft 2
Overwatch
War thunder
Team fortress 2
(I'm not sure if there cpu intensive games)

Solution

With Fx-8300, you are not getting any future upgrades done easily.

Get Ryzen 3 and you can switch to Ryzen 7 later if needed, also ddr 4 can be used on other boards, but fx-8300 boards :)

There are only four CPUs in the whole Ryzen lineup that are worth considering IMO: the 1200, 1400, 1600 and 1700.

None of the 'X' model make any sense to me since XFR is disabled the moment you decide to overclock, the non-X and X versions overclock to pretty much exactly the same levels where applicable and you can get most of that overclock using the stock cooler, saving you the added expense of aftermarket cooling when going with the 'X' variants.

Since the 1400 gives you SMT, that's an extra ~30% performance in heavily threaded workloads and possibly a few extra years in useful life for gaming.

If had a slightly better CPU and video card prices were not crazy I would tell you to go get a new GPU. The issue is your CPU is really outdated and the platform is dead. Pairing a good CPU with the 460 is like driving a sports car in a school zone.

I would try and do the best of both worlds and take a step down to a R3 1200 and get a 1050ti. This will be a significant improvement over your current system. It will put you over budget by $60, but I think your gaming experience will be much better.

Sell all those old parts should give you at least $ 50 to cover all those upgrades

The problem with selling my current hardware, is that it's a prebuilt pc so I don't have the boxes or anything, and will anyone even buy a used fx-4300 in 2017. The rx-460 however might be worth something

I would not put any money into the AM3 platform. Maybe I would go for a fx 8xxx series for less than $50 and get a 1050ti. Even then, they are not very good chips. You are right, you wont get much for your system as a whole. Pending on where you live, you may get a decent price for the RAM and the 460 individually. RAM prices are crazy high right now and that includes ddr3.

Can't put DDR4 in a FX system.

I wouldn't buy a FX chip either.

Start over with Ryzen.

DDR4 wont work with the 8300. But that is good for you because you will be able to save money by using your DDR3 RAM. For the short term, the fx 8xxx will give you better fps, no doubt. For the long term, the fx 8xxx is a dead platform. If you can find a good deal on the fx 8xxx, then it may be worth it to drive with it for a year and game. But you will have to upgrade everything sooner than later. So putting the money in a dead platform is kinda like throwing good money after bad.

Yep, sell fx-6300 and board for some money back ~ Ryzen board is only using ddr4 I believe and they love high frequency Rams :) Short answer is yes.

I have a fx-4300, and the board I have just completely "sucks", I don't think anyone will wanna buy it.lol.:)

I just think that even though the
fx-6300 isn't that great, I can still upgrade my gpu to a gtx-1050 ti SC
Or a 1060 3gb.

Absolutely, you may get 1050 ti now and upgrade all other things later.
FX-6300 is still decent for 1050 ti
