i am in need of information about HDD for home security cameras

I am purchasing a new system which requires a HDD. i need to know if the Western Digital 500 GB Sata/16 MB Cache will be compatible to their suggested Seagate SATA 23 320 GB - 2 TB and if possible please keep it un techy as I am definitly not a techy person

they will work. They operate as separate drives. You can have 10 drives from different manufacturers and they will still work on one system

Just buy western digital surveillance hdd https://www.wdc.com/products/business-internal-storage/wd-purple-nv.html . They seems to be design for write operation and that is what CCTV nvr/dvr do, constant writing to HDD when recording.
