upgrading my pc and been looking at ryzen cpus,
from what i can gather i can buy a 1400 ryzen 5 and overclock it and get the same performance gains as a 1500x or 1600, any views on this cheers

After overclocking the Ryzen 5 1400 (quad core) you won't get the performance of the Ryzen 5 1600 (six core processor) because it has 2 more extra cores.

The Ryzen 5 1400 has 4 cores and 8 threads VS the Ryzen 51600 6 cores and 12 threads.

that is the only difference i can see is yes the 1600 has 6 cores but how much pefomance difference will i see between the two. so putting a overclocked 1400 at 4ghz and and 1600

A six core will have approx. 50% more performance as it has 50% more cores. In real world...your talking about 10-20 FPS in games or minutes less to encode a video file for example.

The Ryzen 1600 will be a lot faster when multitasking (running multiple applications) 50% and single core speed will be 7% faster on the 1600. Check the comparison below

If you are not planning on streaming your game or use multiple applications while gaming, you should be ok because single core performance is almost identical.
