I recently got a MSI GTX 1080 Gaming X and today I´ve noticed that the backplate gets really hot during load i cant even touch it I have to guess but it´s 60 degrees at least. Is this normal? Can this damage my card? also thinking of getting a cooler is their any really good ones for my card?

Solution
The temp sensor is on the card (plate) itself as far as I know so whatever you're using to report the gpu temperature should tell it to you pretty accurately. But I'm not talking about case fans. I'm talking about the fans on the bottom of your video card? Are they spinning as well? Can you load up msi afterburner and adjust their speed so to cool it down some? It should make a big difference.

60 C during gaming is quite normal, and expected. Not so much on idle. When it starts getting into high 80s, or 90s is when you should be worried. If you want to know exact temp, get something like HWMonitor or HWInfo and they'll report on the temps of cpu, gpu and motherboard sensors (of which there are usually more than one).

It should, yes, but before you start buying things, first figure out if there's something wrong with your own fans. If you open side of the case, are they not spinning? If they're not, get MSI Afterburner and modify the temp/RPM so that they start spinning sooner and faster, to cool it down.

It's doing its job yes, if it's hot during gaming. That being said, it's worth it to keep an eye on temps using something like hwmonitor, just so you know if something goes wrong or if your card is overly stressed, so to know to load up msi afterburner and increase the spin of the fans a little, until the temps come down. It's not a bad thing to keep an eye on it and adjust things to the temps you're comfortable with. But yes, if the monitor tells you 60C, that's actually pretty cool for gaming on 1080. It's a hot card and those temps and higher are to be expected.
