My Network Adapter is not staying on the channel my modem is set to.

My Fios modem is broadcasting a fixed network channel 6 that I selected on the modem's homepage. The laptop I use inexplicably prefers the network channel 1 on the wireless adapter and will switch to after a time. This drastically affects my connectivity and bandwidth of 75 to <10 so it's noticeable when it happens. My modem will still be broadcasting the network channel 6 but my wireless adapter will show that it is on 1.

In order to correct my wireless adapter, disconnecting and reconnecting usually works. Sometimes it doesn't. The time before it will switch by itself is pretty random from a few hours to a full day. This appears to only affect my laptop.

Troubleshooting Steps I've Taken:
Updating Wireless Driver: Hasn't fixed the issue.
Changing IPv4 properties such dns/ip address automatic/vs specifying the ip/subnet/gateway

It technically can't work that way. The router is in full control and the session will not establish if the pc tries to used something the router is not set for. Be sure you are using a different SSID than any neighbors and have set a security key/password

Now what may be happening is you are using a 40mhz channel. The concept of channels 1,6,11 is very outdated and is based on 20mhz channels. When you use 40mhz channels it in effect uses the radio bandwidth represented by channels 1&6 or 6&11. Your pc may choose to display the connection as channel 1 even though it is actually using both. This is actually a over simplification but to avoid confusion.

The problem with 40mhz channels is that even though your get more bandwidth you also double the chance you get interference from a neighbor.

Try to force the router to use only 20mhz channels.

Best bet if router and nic support it is to try to use the 5g band there are many more channels to try
