Hello.

A few days ago my PSU (Green) just died and I kinda got into building a new pc instead of just replacing the PSU. I told the store manager that I wanted the new i7 7700k and he suggested these parts to go with that :

Mobo : Asus H170 Pro
CPU : i7 7700k
RAM : Kingston fury 4GB 2400mhz
PSU : Green 580 watts

Case : also Green but don' know the model. The front panel has no USB3 port, when I mentioned this the manager said that you could use a USB3 cable which is faster than a front panel USB3 port, is this true ?

I'd like to know whether this is a good build or not and what are your suggestions. The store which I visited has no variety and if in the worst case I had to build this, would it be bad for regular daily use (no gaming) ?
Please keep in mind that I can't increase the budget right now.

mobo fine, the 7700k has a higher stock clock, some would say that without a z board the k is not worth it, but the clocks swing it to my mind.

RAM is sold in kits, and should be used in kits, in the days of DDR and DDR2 you could mix and match, with DDR3 this was less advisable, and DDR4 it is also inadvisable, the higher frequencies make it more a more difficult.

Hey, I'm pretty sure that you can't overclock with that chipset and you absolutely need atleast 8gb for gaming otherwise it will be a bottleneck. The cpu would be overkill for only web browsing. Consider getting a non k processor if you don't want to OC. If you want to game, you'll need a Graphics card. Also I have no idea what the manager is saying so I can't answer that.

Hi guys, thanks for your replies.

I don't intend to play games and even if I do I'm sure there'll be no problems because my old pc which was way slower than this one could handle the games I play. I mostly do graphical stuff and encode a lot and the applications I use don't use GPU so I only need a powerful CPU. I've also got a gt 440 2GB which I can use later if need be.

But wouldn't that increase the cost significantly ?
Actually I intend to add another 4GB stick later.

What about the brands ? Are there better alternatives from other brands in the same budget range ?

What if I change the MB to PRIME H270-PRO ? Is it good ?
About buying the 7700 instead of 7700k I have to say the cost difference is not considerable and 7700k's single thread performance is better.

About the RAM, even if I buy the same stick later they might not work together ? Why ?

As for the PSU I'm afraid I'm stuck with that one.

If you're overclocking you need a Z270 board. If you're not overclocking you can get a better PSU and go with an H270 board and a 7700 (non K). If you want to save further money you could go with an R5-1600, but you should definitely get a better PSU otherwise I would not even bother upgrading until you can get one.

You mean even if I add another stick later which is the same as the one mentioned in the first thread there's a chance that they won't work together ? If yes I'll try to buy a 8 GB kit, what is your suggestion ?

btw, I have no experience with DDR4 RAMs so I don't know what's the difference between a single 4 GB stick and an 8 GB kit, obviously apart from the GB size. Could you please explain this ?

As mentioned in the post above the k version has a higher clock without OCing and that's why I chose it.
What do you mean by a "better PSU" ? You mean the brand or the wattage ? Is it not sufficient ? (580 watt)
For the AMD CPU I have to say I have more uses for the Intel CPU, but thank you for your suggestion.

an 8 GB kit is usually 2x4GB sticks, BUT they have been tested together and are known to work together, not as a model type can work together, but those individual sticks are tested together.
2 single 4Gb sticks are not known to work together, and can cause issue, so best to avoid.
