Will a AMD Athlon X4 860k bottleneck an GTX 1060 6Gb?

Hey everyone!

Current CPU:AMD Athlon X4 860k
Current GPU: Geforce GTX 960 2Gb
Desired GPU: Geforce GTX 1060 6Gb

I want to play skyrim with some pretty heavy mods (and various others, of course), and i would like to upgrade my GPU from a Gigabyte GTX 960 2Gb, to a 1060 6Gb (Brand not decided yet) ....

I have already checked my potential bottlenecking already with the 960, with open hardware monitor. I saw that when i was standing in currently the laggiest part of the game that i have found so far, that my CPU *AND* GPU utilisation with the 960 is around 80 - 95%, sometimes 100%.

I have tried to overclock the CPU, but i suck at it to be honest, and when i thought i was getting somewhere it didnt even make that much of a difference.

With both of the usages being so high, i have no clue what to upgrade first, or what I would get the most benefit from ....

Any help is appreciated guys :)
Thanks!

Hi, so since you said that:

I suppose the only logical conclusion is that you are somewhat reachnig the potential of the Athlon, since it is being overburdened with all the frames the 960 is sending its way. As far as to what to upgrade first, I really have no idea. Ideally you'd want to upgrade both in order to really benefit from one or the other, but it's really up to you. Maybe hold off on the upgrade until you can afford both?

Well thanks for all the feedback guys! I guess that having to upgrade both is pretty much the solution I have come to. I'll get the Graphics card first and then get the MOBO,CPU and DDR4 RAM as I save up more money
