Should I get the AMD FX 8350 over the Ryzen 5 1400

I found a ridiculous sale on the FX 8350 for only 100$, compared to the Ryzen 5 1400's 160$ or so price tag. The 8350 has 1 more GHz, and has 2x as many cores...

Whats the big deal here?!? Should I get the 8350 or is Ryzen better due to the smaller lithography and features or such. Is the 8350 bad at single threaded performance? Etc?

I had a really nice build planned out but this CPU deal came up out of the blue today. Should I get it, or should I stick with a 1400?

Two things to keep in mind, first with the ram always get the fastest ram for Ryzen, and be careful of the compatibility, check the motherboard you get for its QVL. Ram speed makes a huge difference with Ryzen and is worth the money.

As for the PSU, the Corsair CX450M should be a good bit cheaper and do the job for you.

Finally your friend just doesn't want to feel like he wasted his money, he is extremely wrong.

Do you have anything you can back this up with..? I'm just making sure because my friend said "your build is trash" and showed me his 70$ cpu. I knew something was wrong, as it really shouldn't be that cheap

Here's the store that's selling it if it matters - http://www.microcenter.com/product/463637/FX_8350_Black_Edition_Vishera_40_GHz_Eight-Core_AM3_Boxed_Processor_with_Wraith_Cooler

Your friend doesn't know what he is talking about.

Look at any processor benchmark anywhere. The FX-8350 (and 9590 and 9350) is a 5 year old processor, ancient technology in PC years. Buying ancient stuff like that now is the dumbest thing you can do.

Benchmarks

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/amd_ryzen_5_1400_review,9.html

They don't have the 8350 but they do have the 8370 which is slightly faster. The R5 1400 blows it away in every test.

The R5-1400 sits between the R3-1200 and R5-1500X, but it basically matches or beats the FX-8370.

*Also, there are other benchmarks where it's further ahead.

**It's not just the CPU either, you need to take your BUDGET and balance all the parts for a new build, and for RYZEN that means the memory should be ideally 3200MHz.

i.e. 2x4GB DDR4 3200MHz

You can drop to 2666MHz if the budget is pretty tight

OTHER:
The X4 950 is also a CPU to consider for a tight budget as it works with the AM4 socket thus allows an UPGRADE PATH to a better Ryzen CPU later. (the X4 950 is an older CPU but it's similar to an R3-1200).

I'd get the R5-1400 though if budget allows.

*I'll make an example BUILD with pcpartpicker and post it.

I'm on a real budget, so I decided to get an RX 560

Meanwhile, I don't need a DVD drive since I can install windows via USB - and I already have a copy of windows

Also there is definitely cheaper cases than that. Theres no real point in getting a more costly case (besides temps sometimes, maybe on older crappier cases) unless you want the computer itself to look nice - which I don't care about

Also modularity in the PSU could be switched for no modularity, for an assumingly lower price

The B350 seems like an unnecessary board when you can just get a A320. I don't need to overclock, and I'm sure whatever other fancy features that come with it I won't need.

The RAM is OK, but since prices are really wobbly, I was going to pick the cheapest but fast (somewhere around 2800-3200) RAM when I actually get the money to afford my PC. The HDD is what I was gonna get, too

Thanks for telling me tho. My friend still thinks he's right about the FX 8350 going to be better and all that, I guess I can't really change his mind . _.
