When attempting to use dimm 1 or 2, my computer fails to post, stopping either at powering up the north bridge or (more often) at the memory initialization. My computer will start up successfully with the dimm 3 and 4 slots used, or just one of those.

I am attempting to get two sticks of ripjawsX 8gig and an additional 8gig kingston hyperX stick to run. Every stick works on it's own in the dimm 4 slot and boots up the computer fine.

Hardware:
MSI z97 Gaming 5 mobo
intel i5-4690k processor
16 gig RipjawsX ram 8gig x2
8 gig kingston HyperX ram
MSI GTX 960 4g

I was having this same problem with my mobo and RMA'd it, got the replacement today and had the exact same issue, so I'm thinking its something I'm doing but I don't know what that could be.

I've been trying to find similar threads on the subject, but none are exactly the same issue and i've tried all the fixes I can.

Troubleshooting I've done:
Tested all sticks, each will successfully boot the computer when placed in DIMM 4 with no other sticks installed. (mobo says to use slot 2 and 4 first).

Tested all slots, only slot 3 and 4 will produce a successful boot, whether with a single stick or multiple.

I'm using the factory cpu cooler, I dont think it can be overtightened as it uses the plastic plugs not screws.

Bent cpu pins: I'm using a fresh out of the box RMA'd mobo, and it doesnt appear that any of the pins are bent or missing.

Thank you so much for any help, this is aggravating me to no end.

Solution
two sticks of ripjawsX 8gig and an additional 8gig kingston hyperX stick to run

Such combinations are not guaranteed to be compatible. Without any part numbers listed, it is impossible to know exactly what memory you have.

MSI lists using memory slot 2 and 4 for a dual channel memory combination.

If slot 2 doesn't work you may have bent CPU pins.
