Hey guys.I currently have 2x2 DDR2 ram making it a total of 4GB.My motherboard has only 2 slots. So what will happen if i remove 1 of those 2gb and put in 4gb in that place.I want to have 6 GB of ram atleast for now. Will it work fine? Also another really important question, can anyone determine if my motherboard can handle a single stick of 4GB ram? It says max of 8GB but i honestly don't know much about computers.Long story short will it be okay to use 1 stick of 2gb and 1 stick of 4gb giving it a total of 6GB. Here's a link to my motherboard:

Thanks a lot!

Solution

2 slots, 8GB...that means it will, in theory, accept 4GB sticks.
However...mixing RAM sticks is always a crapshoot. Your existing 2GB may not work with a different 4GB.
A set of 2 x 4GB will work.

That's the thing,i have no idea how to determine if it supports a 4gb single stick. It has 2 slots and it says max of 8GB on my motherboard info.I left a link in my original post,if you can help sweet.

EDIT: On my motherboard memory support list there are a few 4GB single sticks like Kingston etc...that means that it will support a single stick of 4GB?

if that is any indication, then, yes you could use 4gb sticks.next thing is to find them.

Yeah i know but unfortunately 2x4GB of DDR2 it's really expensive. Some friends said that the existing 2GB with the 4GB will probably work, ofc there's always the risk that it may not,but probably will. That's why i thought i'd get your opinion :)
