I am going to be setting up a totally new computer system for my Father-In-Law's real estate company. They will need 10 desktop systems all set up the same. New computer, monitor, keyboard, mouse.

They will not be doing anything requiring a lot of CPU power. Mainly internet, email, a property management cloud based program, and one of the open source office suites.

Right now they are using a variety of computers mostly still running Windows XP so anything is going to be light years ahead of what they have.

I have been looking at pre-made systems and the low cost systems are around $450. I just built a new gaming system for my home so I can handle the building. Considering they are going to need 10 complete systems, all set up the same, would it be better to just buy premade systems or build 10 systems for scratch? If you think I should build, what are your suggestions for components? Thanks at least 10 times!

dell has office pc. what i would do id during normal work hours call up dell. after you look at a few system. see what they can give you for bulk purches order. you may have to sign up with a corp account to get better prices. have your father in law go with a boot ssd for speed. the extra 80 on each pc will be worth it in speed. also spend exta for 8g of ram for min system. with windows 10 the more ram you give it the more it can cache ie and other apps. also have you and his cpa sit down see how there going to write the units off on his taxes. also have him set up site license for anti virus...backup software and office. make sure you let him know not to let people walk out with office keys or his pc wont work with office if the keys...

If I were you, I'd look into buying 10 prebuilts. No muss, no fuss, for what they do they won't know the difference and its way less work.

Heck you may even consider calling dell and seeing what leases look like, may be worth doing 3 year leases on all the systems, and in 3 years you get all new ones.

$500 systems are designed to replaced in 18 months. We have 10 in my SOHO, 5 desktops and 5 lappies. The fun part is AutoCAD is our mainstay program and anything that's good for 2D / 3D AutoCAD is great for gaming. Some planning is generally warranted as putting in 10 new systems , means at some point you need 10 new systems all at the same time.

I use a Workstation / file server which serves as data storage for all the other systems ... All data is on a 2 TB SSHD which is backed up to a mirror via software nightly in the box. There's also a HD docking station for offsite backup. Windows Pro of course. We have one Windows Home box but if there's lotta folks on network, then the Home user isn't let in.

You'll prolly be about $850 for the man box, and $650 for the others if ya want something that ya can stretch 4-5 years.

I am leaning towards prebuilt because building 10 systems from scratch would take me a while to put together. While that is not a problem because I could order the parts ahead of time and work on the computers in my spare time, it would take up all my spare time for at least a week or so. Do you know if Best Buy, Dell or HP or any of the other makers might offer a bulk price for 10 complete systems?

I had a chat session with a Dell rep and this was what he had suggested.

Agent (DEEPAK_SAHOO): "We have OptiPlex 3050 Small Form Factor....

It would come with the latest 7th generation processor - Intel® Core™ i3-7100
Windows 10 Pro 64bit English
3.5 inch 500GB 7200rpm Hard Disk Drive
Intel® Integrated Graphics
8x DVD+/-RW 9.5mm Optical Disk Drive"
3 Years ProSupport with Next Business Day Onsite Service

Dell 19 Monitor | E1916H
Agent (DEEPAK_SAHOO): "Starting at Price $994.70"
Agent (DEEPAK_SAHOO): "Total Discount - $275.41"
Agent (DEEPAK_SAHOO): "Dell Price $719.29 each"
Agent (DEEPAK_SAHOO): "This includes the desktop, monitor, wired keyboard and mouse"

So they did offer a $275.41 discount per system but that's still a bit pricey I think.
